The kingdom of Dahomey
From the 17th to the 19th century, the kingdom of Dahomey shone from Abomey. Its royal palaces, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1985, and its female regiments, the famous Agojie, testify to a remarkable political and military organization.
Ouidah and the memory of the slave trade
A major port of the slave trade, Ouidah preserves the Slave Route and the Door of No Return, a memorial to the deported. It is here that many now choose to come back.
